ENGLISH GUARD ESSAY

The guards knocked our door. I was afraid because usually they wake us up one hour later. My mom oponed the door for them. They said wake us up one hour later. My mom opened the door for them. They said there were here to take my brother. I wasnt surprised at all.. my brother is always breaking rules. “What has he done?“, my mom asked but they didnt even look at her. They were ignoring us like if we weren‘t there. They were looking for mi brother but he wasnt there. Then I realized that he had escaped with the help of my mom. They were hitting my mom and then they took her away. They took my dad too because he was trying to help her and he said he helped my brother escape to protect my mom. Why didnt they told me about this. And why did she help my brother escape but not me. It was horrible to see how they hit my mom but I didnt felt bad because I knew my mom did something bad. But I felt bad for my dad.

The next morning they came to my room to wake me up and they took me to a new room. Then I realized that they moved me because they killed my mom and dad.

It has been five years since they killed my parents and today they are making us move big rocks so they can make new rooms because they are bringing new people to the camp.

My Biology Project !

Chameleons are reptiles that are part of the iguana suborder. These lizards are known as one of the few animals that can change skin color. It is a misconception that chameleons change colors to match their surroundings.

Size

there are 171 species of chameleons. With so many different species, there are many different sizes.

The smallest chameleon has a special distinction. It is also one of the smallest vertebrates ever discovered. The leaf chameleon grows to just 0.5 inches (16 millimeters) and can sit comfortably on the head of a match. The largest chameleon is the Parson’s chameleon, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. It can grow up to 27 inches (69.5 centimeters) long. The Madagascan, also known as the Oustalet's chameleon, is also very large and grows up to 23 inches (60 cm) long.
Unlike other animals, chameleons continue to grow throughout their lives. As their old skin gets too small, they will shed it in bits and pieces, dissimilar to snakes that shed their skin all at once.

Skin of many colors
Changing skin color is an important part of communication among chameleons. According to the San Diego Zoo, a chameleon's skin changes colors in response to its emotions, such as anger or fear, changes in light, temperature or humidity.
The brighter the color, the more dominant the male is, and the more attractive he is to females. A submissive male is usually brown or gray. Females use their colors to accept or reject a suitor, and their color can also indicate that she is pregnant.
A new study has found that chamaleons can rapidly  change color by adjusting special cells, called iridophore cells, in each layer. The chameleons can change the structural arrangement of the upper cell layer by relaxing or exciting the skin, which leads to a change in color, researchers found.

Habitat

Chameleons live in Madagascar, Africa, Spain, Portugal and Asia in rain forests, savannas, semi-deserts and steppes, according to the San Diego Zoo. They typically stay in trees or bushes, though some species do live on the ground. For example, the horned leaf chameleon lives in dead leaves on forest floors according to the National Wildlife Federation.

Habits

Most chameleons have a prehensile tail that they use to wrap around tree branches. Their hands and feet have large toes that help them cling to branches.
Besides changing skin color, chameleons have another feature that no other animals have. Their eyes can move independently of each other, enabling them to look in two different directions at once. Chameleons have a full 360-degree view and can focus their eyes quickly and enlarge what they are looking at like a camera lens.
Chameleons are loners. In fact, most of the time females don't want males to even come near them. During the rare moments when the female is willing to be touched, the male will approach for mating. A brighter colored male chameleon is more likely to convince a female to mate than a duller colored male.

Diet

Chameleons eat insects and birds. To catch their prey, they creep along very slowly. Once the prey is in reach, their suction cup tongue shoots out and sticks to the insect. Their tongues can be as twice as long as their bodies when stretched out to catch prey, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. The insect is drawn back into the lizard's mouth to be digested by strong stomach acids.
Water is very important to chameleon growth and health. They either slurp water up using their tongues or the inhale it.

Trip Zoo

I really enjoyed this day. It was really fun and helped me practice my english. I think it also made me get closet to my classmates.

In the zoo one of the keepers told us about conservation. He explained about many animals getting extent and he told us how the zoo protects many endangered species and he showed us how the zoo does different things for them to have a better life in difference of other zoo's.

Innovation Talk

On Wednesday 16th of September, we had an Enterprise Innovation Talk . A lady came and talk us about thinking out of the box. She was really good at speaking. We were slit in groups and she gave us paper clips to make ideas of what we could do with them. I think it was a very good idea what they did because they made me realize that I can think outside the box and make many things that I wouldn't  imagine. I really enjoyed that talk and it made me time more positive.

Eagles Flight Workshop

On Monday 14 of September was the first workshop we had. We played this game called Gold of the Desert Kings. We were divided in groups of 5 and 6 and we weres supposed to get to the mountains in 28 days and then go back home with all the gold you could get. It souds very easy but it wasn't.
This workshop was a good experience. I think it helped me making new friends and developing my skills to work as a team. I really enjoy the game and i'm looking forward to more workshops like this.

The Camping Trip

Everyone was ready and excited to go to the camping trip and they were nervously waiting to get their Junior Certificate results too. Some were happy about their results and others were crying. The bus came. It was difficult to get our bags to the bus because it was full of bags, sleeping bags, pillows, and other stuff. I sat in the end of the bus and someone opened the window, it was freezing! When we finally made it to the lake the first thing we did was set up the tent. There were 5 of us sharing our tent, Robyn, Natasha, Jackie, Regina and I. I thought it was going to be difficult to set the tent but it wasn’t. Our tent had two rooms Natasha Jackie and Robyn stayed in one and Regina and I in the other. In the middle of the rooms we has a lot of space so that was where we stored our food and bags.

When we finished setting up the tent we made lunch. I ate granola bars and some Pringles. The teachers explained that in  30 minutes we were going to a 6 kilometres walk. Everyone thought that was a long walk , believe me ,we understood how wrong we were the next day! During the walk we saw ships, mountains, lakes and beautiful views. When we came back from the walk I drank lots of water and I ate more granola bars, Oreo cookies, chips and some chocolate. Then I changed my messy clothes I put my pyjamas and a jumper because I was freezing. For dinner we made fajitas. Although I'm Mexican it was the first time I tried them and they were really good. When we finished eating we cleaned up and went to the camp fire where we all sat in a circle and started playing games and we made smores. At 10.30 everyone was so tired so we returned to the tents and we went to sleep.

The next morning voices woke me up, they were the boys that were speaking so loud. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and to put some clothes on. For breakfast we made pancakes with Nutella. They were really good, we made croissants and some tea too. When we finished eating we cleaned everything and packed lunch because we were going to a 22 kilometres walk and we were not going to return  until the afternoon. I walked only 2 hours and I was already tired. When we finally made it to the lake ,we ate our lunch. I ate some oreo cookies, popcorn, nuts and chocolate. I was so full! The walk was probably the longest I’ve ever walked. I didn't like it at all. We got to see beautiful views though. When we came back the girls of my tent and I made dinner, we had sausages and when we cleaned up everything we went to the tent to put on our pyjamas and went to the bonfire with everyone. At the bonfire, we made smores. At 11pm everybody when to sleep.

The last morning all we did was pack and we put down the tent then we ate what we had left of food. I ate granola bars and apples. Then the bus came and took us to the school were our parents were waiting for us.

My expectations of Transition Year

From my year in Ireland I will learn about the Irish culture, like their beliefs. I’ll try new food, learn more of the language and I hope to make new friends.

From the Camping Trip I expect to get to know my classmates better and make new friends. I’ll learn to work as a team and also its going to help to improve my English.

From school, I expect to learn new things, to improve in math, to learn about pottery, and to improve my grammar. I would like to make some friends too.

I think the work experience, I think is going to be great for my future, I will have more practice and I will learn what to do and what not do to. I think for the work place. Also I will have a better idea of what carear I would like to pursue. At the moment I would like to be a dancer.

From new experience I will try hockey because I’ve never played and it will be nice to learn some, and I would like to go to museum and to the zoo.

From the trips I would like to learn of it like for example if we go to museums ill learn about history, i adore history, I think is super interesting and important and we shouldn't loose it.

From improving my english, I think this year is going to be great. Its going to help me a lot in the future maybe at work and if I move to another city where people speak english it would be easier to adapt.

I think improving my english is going to help me a lot in the future maybe at work or if I want to live somewhere that speaks English it would be easier.
